So we are having a girl. Daelyn Joy Alden. Last night, Tiana handed ‘the envelope’ to my mother and announced the news amid a flood of tears. “Your babies name is…Daelyn Joy!” It was a special moment. More in this later…
Tiana and I landed in Atlanta late last night to spend christmas with the Alden family. We are SO grateful to be here. When I woke up this morning, I realized that this is the first time we have spent christmas with family in four years. While we were in Boston, holiday travel, (especially the distance we needed to go) was above our pay grade. We would hang out at home with our awesome neighbors and a lot of champagne and sustain each other with christmas joy as long as possible. This would usually last until all the phone calls were finished, then we would hit a wall. Tiana and I would get sad (dare I say depressed?) around 2:00 PM.
But this year, Jason (Brother) graciously brought everyone to Atlanta for the weekend. So the whole Gerry Alden clan: Gerry and Grethel, Jason, Myles and Tiana, Scott and Lydia, and Nicholas are together for the first time in a long while.
Family tradition dictates we open a present on christmas eve. Tiana and Lydia planned to open ‘the envelopes’. I should add here that Scott and Lydia (sister) are also expecting their first, due in May. Also, my very patient parents will be getting their first 2 grandbabies in 2009.
‘The envelopes’ were packages that contained the sex of the two babies. We did not know until last night that ‘Acorn’ is actually ‘Daelyn’. As it turns out, Scott and Lyds are also having a baby girl, Ashlin May VonWeller!
Last night was pretty special. Jay and Nick infused their normal brand of humor into the event. They will be GREAT uncles! Scott and I shared our fears and excitement of being fathers to daughters. Mom cried, Dad giggled. Tiana and Lydia beamed like only pregnant ladies can. We all enjoyed the blessings of the Father!
So that was christmas eve. We hope you all have a great christmas season!
TWO baby girls!!! Wow. Can you imagine what next Christmas will be like? I am absolutely certain that having a girl will change your life! Start planning your daddy/daughter dates now.
